Welcome to the The Memorial 2024

Event Overview

Congrats on a great season for those who have qualified! You have received an email if you earned a spot in the season ending event, The Memorial Tournament.  This year’s event will be in honor of George Ferguson.

George D. Ferguson

George Dewey Ferguson passed away in March 2023.  He is survived by his loving family and brothers and sisters of Brookfield CC, especially his inner ‘Rat’ circle.  George was a founding member of Friday Banker, Fireball Friday, and notably led to coining of the term ‘Fergie Press’ by which a player in said Banker game doubles down his bet with the ball in the air only for it to come to rest in the most dubious of locations.  He was one of us and his presence has/will be missed.

The first event of The Memorial is the drawing of teams. That will be next Thursday, Oct 3rd at 7:30 at the club (we will start as soon as the Stableford concludes). We will have food provided by the club. It is crucial that you respond to this email if you are unavailable to play in the event as well as with your shirt size and quarter zip size.  We will also be noting sizes during the draft to ensure we can place the order promptly.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • Team Selection Thursday Oct 3rd at 7:30pm at the club.
  • Day 1 Pairing party Friday November 1st at 6:30pm at the club, followed by kickoff dinner for all MGA members and spouses Friday, November 1st at 7:00pm at club. (This cost is out of pocket for attendees).  Dinner will be preceded by the Kirby Trophy unveiling and a few words by George’s close family and friends.
  • Memorial Day 1: Saturday, November 2nd at 9:00am. Three nine-hole matches (same partner and opponents for all three) Four-Ball, 2-man modified alternate shot, 2-man shamble.  Day 2 pairing party immediately following final round on the pool deck.
  • Memorial Day 2: Sunday, November 3rd at 9:00am. Singles matches followed by awards presentation on the patio.

Notes:

  • Captains are responsible for pairings for each day.  Order of selection will be alternating with each captain selecting each team of 2.
  • Normal USGA rules will apply for the duration of this event, with determination about playing lies through fairway to be made day of event.
  • In case of a tie, the tie breaker will be 2-man low gross sudden death 3 hole maximum.  2-man teams will consist of low and high gross players from each team.  If after three holes there is no winner, will go to chip off.  Handicaps will determine tee box used for each player.

Congratulations again to all!
